Combined challenges
Combined challenges
Combined challenges score both daily steps and sports workouts, often with a step game. They appear as a featured option in the create-event wizard.
Create a combined challenge #
- Create new Event → Step 1: base data.
- Step 2: under Most popular, select Combined challenge.
- Create — a step game is created automatically with default tasks.
Default scoring #
New combined challenges typically include scoring rules for:
- Daily step threshold (for example 10,000 steps)
- Step game task completion
- Active day minimum (for example 30 minutes)
Adjust rules in Settings → Rules and points in Settings → Advanced and Step game.
How daily totals are calculated #
For daily rules, each sports workout belongs to the calendar day on which it started, using the challenge organization's timezone.
DistantRace also avoids counting the same on-foot movement twice when it arrives as both a workout and daily steps. For each day:
- Running, orienteering, walking, Nordic walking, and hiking workout distance is compared with the distance estimated from daily steps. Only the larger of those two distances counts.
- Distance from other accepted sports is added separately.
For example, if one day contains a 6 km walk workout and 5 km estimated from daily steps, the combined distance for that movement is 6 km, not 11 km. An accepted cycling workout on that day would be added to it.
This daily grouping is also used by distance-based active-day rules. Sports workouts can still earn their own sport points, while step game tasks use synced daily-step records rather than workout records.
Walkthrough steps #
The walkthrough shows Step game, Points, and Sports sections in addition to standard steps.
When to use #
Corporate wellness programs that want both walking and structured workouts, or events where different participants prefer steps vs runs.
Participants #
Participants need the mobile app for steps and a connected sports app for workouts. Share the challenge onboarding page.
