Upgrading participant limits

Upgrading participant limits

Free and paid plans cap how many people can join an event. When you approach the limit, upgrade from the challenge walkthrough or event upgrade page.

When you need an upgrade #

The settings walkthrough Slots step shows used vs allowed participants. Paid plans include a base allowance; larger events need additional slots.

Upgrade options #

Open the event → Upgrade (linked from the walkthrough slots step).

Option Description
Buy more participants One-time purchase of additional slots for this event
Subscribe Monthly subscription for a fixed participant cap across events
Resume subscription Reactivate a lapsed subscription at the same tier

Minimum purchase #

Upgrades below 50 participants are rounded up to 50 unless the event already allows 60+ participants.

Pricing tiers #

  • Pro — €1 per participant per month
  • Pro+ Assisted — €3 per participant per month (includes DistantRace setup support)

VAT is calculated from your club's country and VAT registration. See Costs and pricing.

Checkout #

Upgrade purchases go through the standard shop checkout (card payment). After payment, the event's max_participant_count increases immediately. You receive a PDF invoice — see Invoices for platform services.

Mobile App Store and Google Play purchases #

Challenge hosts can also upgrade in the mobile app:

Path: Profile → Your events → challenge → Manage → Upgrade capacity

  • A new free challenge can select an available total-capacity tier during creation.
  • Once a paid capacity is active, later purchases add 10, 25, 50, 100, or 250 places to the current limit.
  • The app shows the live App Store or Google Play price and the resulting total before purchase.
  • The purchase is validated by DistantRace before the event limit changes.

If the store charged you but activation did not finish, choose Retry activation. This retries verification of the existing purchase and does not charge again. Contact support if the store tier is unavailable or the event needs more than the largest offered capacity.
