Joining a team

Many events support teams — department groups, clubs, or open teams created by participants.

If the organizer or a teammate sends a link with a team code (?join_team=...):

  1. Open the link while logged in.
  2. The registration form pre-selects that team.
  3. Complete registration — you are added to the team.

When the organizer enables Team invites (link / QR), every registered member can open their own team in the website or mobile app and share its link or QR code. The invite is available only while registration is open and participant capacity remains.

Team invites can grant private access

A valid team invite can bypass the event's private password, join password, or individual invitation code. Do not post it publicly unless your team is open to anyone.

Pick a team during registration #

On the apply form you may see a team dropdown:

  • Choose an existing team, or
  • Create a new team (if the organizer allows open teams)

In the mobile app, choose Create team in the team picker, enter a name, and continue registration. New participant-created teams are public. If the same normalized name already exists, DistantRace selects the existing team instead of creating a duplicate.

Some events only allow pre-defined teams set by the organizer — in that case you pick from their list.

Change team after joining #

Some challenges let you switch teams after registration from the apply or team settings page, unless the organizer locked teams.

Team results #

When teams are enabled, you usually see:

  • Individual results on the leaderboard
  • Team standings aggregating member results (often top-N contributors per team)

In the mobile app, Results has separate participant and team tabs. Open a team to see its members and, in multi-sport challenges, each sport's contribution.

Competitions #

In-person and virtual competitions may require a team for certain ticket types (relay, team distances). The checkout form includes team selection or search.

Organizer setup #

Organizers configure teams and member invites in Challenge settings reference.
