Step game daily tasks

In step and combined challenges, the Step game tab shows a sequence of daily tasks (goals) you unlock one after another.

Path: Challenge page → Step game (/challenges/<slug>/step_game/)

Organizers configure tasks in the manager — see Step game. If the tab is missing, the organizer may have hidden it or not set up goals yet.

How it works #

  1. Tasks appear in order — complete the current task before the next one unlocks.
  2. Only one goal per calendar day counts toward progress (based on your timezone).
  3. Each task has a target — not only step counts, but also streaks, rest days, and message-board actions (see below).
  4. Progress updates when DistantRace receives your daily steps, qualifying activities, or message-board activity.
  5. Completed goals show a points badge when the organizer assigned points. If challenge scoring includes a step game task rule, those points also feed the main leaderboard.

Goal types you may see #

Organizers pick from preset goal kinds, for example:

Kind What you need to do
Step amount Reach a daily step target
Consecutive days Stay active on multiple days in a row
Morning boost Hit an early-day step threshold
Increase vs yesterday / beat average / beat best Beat your own recent stats
Rest day Take a planned recovery day
First sync Connect and sync data for the first time
Post message / post image Publish on the challenge message board

Post and image goals are common on private challenges; public events often skip them unless the organizer enables them.

Your progress view #

When you are registered for the challenge, the page highlights:

  • Current goal — what you need to do now, with a progress bar when the goal is active today
  • Opens tomorrow — the next goal is unlocked in sequence but not yet active for today
  • Done — earlier goals with the date you completed them
  • Locked — future goals you have not reached yet
  • Champions — participants who finished the final goal in the sequence

If the challenge has ended, is not open yet, or today's goal is not active, you may see your last completed goal instead of a live progress bar.

If you browse without registering, you can read the goal list and rules but not personal progress or the champions list.

Empty or completed states #

  • No goals configured — the page shows that the Step game is currently unavailable; contact the organizer if you expected tasks.
  • All goals done — a Step game completed message appears; you remain on the champions list if applicable.

Tap a completed goal to open the Achievements list filtered to that goal and see how many participants finished it.
