Importing the start list from a spreadsheet

Instead of assigning bib numbers one by one, upload an Excel (.xlsx) file to update the competition start list in bulk.

Path: Competition → Start list → import/upload control

When to use #

  • Timing company sends a bib assignment spreadsheet
  • You exported the start list, edited numbers offline, and need to re-import
  • Race-day batch registration produced a list of names and bib numbers

This import updates bib numbers and participant matching — it is not the same as importing timing results or the CSV importer.

File requirements #

  • Format: .xlsx (Excel Open XML)
  • Use the column layout expected by DistantRace (match a recent export from the same start list when unsure)

Processing is asynchronous

After upload, processing runs in the background. Refresh the start list after a minute. You receive a success message when the file is queued.

After import #

  1. Spot-check a few entries for correct bib numbers
  2. Resolve duplicates via Merge if the file created overlaps
  3. Export again for your timing partner if needed — see Managing the start list
