From what age can participants join the competitions?

DistantRace can create 2 types of sports events:

  • In-person competitions
  • Virtual competitions and challenges

To participate in in-person competitions, it is not mandatory for participants to have an account on, so in such competitions, if planned by the organizer, children up to 13 years old can also participate.

For virtual competitions and challenges, each participant needs their own account on, as we need to obtain sports activity data that is associated with a specific user.

Although according to GDPR, registration on various platforms is allowed from the age of 16, member states can set a lower age, but not lower than 13 years old. In Latvia, this age is determined by Article 33 of the "Personal Data Processing Law," which states that a child's data cannot be processed without the permission of a parent or guardian.

Therefore, we cannot allow children under the age of 13 to join challenges and virtual competitions. To address this situation, our platform allows parents or guardians of children younger than 13 years to create a sub-account, in which they can indicate which activity the child has performed.

In each competition, it is possible to enable/disable the use of such sub-accounts.
