# Competition advanced settings

**Path:** Competition dashboard → Settings → **Advanced**

Competition advanced settings are simpler than [challenge advanced settings](advanced-challenge-settings.md) — no scoring tiers or CO₂ fields.

## Show participant birth years

**Field:** Show years on registration / public lists

When enabled, birth year (or age group derived from it) is visible on start lists and public views.

::: warning Locked when registrations exist
If participants already registered **without** age verification on the form, this toggle may be disabled to avoid inconsistent data.

When disabled, birth years are hidden from public views (`hide_year` in event params).

## Child subaccounts

**Field:** Child subaccounts  
**Applies to:** Virtual competitions — **disabled for in-person ticket races**.

Same workflow as challenges — parents register children and submit activities manually. See [Advanced challenge settings → Child subaccounts](advanced-challenge-settings.md#child-subaccounts).

## External signup URL

Optional HTTPS link for white-label **paid registration** on an external site. Leave blank to use DistantRace checkout.

## Create linked virtual event (in-person races)

**Button:** Create virtual event  
**Applies when:** In-person race is open and has no linked virtual event yet.

Creates a companion **virtual competition** with:

- Matching distances (virtual equivalents)
- Free registration tickets
- Shared branding

Useful when in-person registrants should also submit GPS activities online (hybrid event). Creation runs in the background — check the competition list when complete.
