# Managing saved participant profiles

Besides your own identity, DistantRace lets you save **other people** you register regularly — children, family members, or teammates.

**Path:** Profile → **Participants** (`/accounts/participants/`)

## Your profile vs saved profiles

| Profile | Who it is |
|---------|-----------|
| **Connected participant** | You — tied to your login, sports apps, and step sync |
| **Saved profiles** | Other people you created or linked — used at checkout |

## Create a profile

1. Participants → **Add**
2. Enter name, birth date, gender, and contact fields
3. Save — the profile appears in the **Participant menu** during registration

See [Registering for someone else](registering-for-someone-else.md) for the checkout flow.

## Edit a profile

Open a saved profile you created to update name, birth date, or contact details. Changes propagate to future registrations; past event entries keep historical data unless the organizer edits them.

You cannot edit another user's **connected** profile (someone with their own login) — only unlink it from your list.

## Link via share code

If an organizer sent a **connect link**, opening it may add an existing participant profile to your account — [Linking a participant profile](linking-a-participant-profile.md).

You can also accept a share link from the Participants page when `?linkcode=` is in the URL.

## Unlink a profile

**Unlink** removes a profile from your Participant menu without deleting the person from events they already joined. Use when you no longer register that person but their history should stay intact.

## Delete a profile

**Delete** is only available for profiles **you created** that do **not have their own login**.

- If the person never registered for a paid or active event, the profile is **anonymized** and removed.
- If they already have registrations or unpaid carts, delete is blocked — DistantRace **unlinks** only and shows a warning so orders and start lists stay correct.
