# Participate in a challenge

Challenges are multi-day events where steps or sports activities sync automatically. Follow these steps to join.

## 1. Create an account

Create a [DistantRace account](create-an-account.md) if you do not have one.

## 2. Install the app (recommended)

Install the [DistantRace app](https://distantrace.com/app). It is **required for step challenges** and helpful for finding private events via QR code.

## 3. Connect a sports app or step source

Connect Garmin, Polar, Fitbit, or another [supported app](../connections-with-apps/supported-apps.md). For daily steps, set up a step source in the mobile app.

## 4. Find the challenge

- Browse [public events](https://distantrace.com/en/events/), or
- Open the private link or QR code from the organizer, or
- Enter a [join code](using-a-join-code.md)

## 5. Register

1. Open the challenge and click **Register**.
2. If the event is private, enter your join code first.
3. Fill in the registration form (custom questions, team, distance if shown).
4. Submit — you appear on the participant list.

### Multiple distances

Some challenges let you enroll in **more than one distance** (for example 5 km and 10 km categories). Select each distance you want on the form.

### Teams

Pick or create a team if the form includes a team question. See [Joining a team](joining-a-team.md).

### Premium packages

Some challenges offer optional paid add-ons after registration. You are redirected to checkout if you select them.

## 6. Record activities

Exercise as usual. Steps and workouts sync to DistantRace automatically from your connected services.

## 7. Follow results

Open **Results** or **My result** on the challenge page. See [After joining a challenge](after-joining-a-challenge.md).
