# Age restrictions and children

## Minimum age

Event organizers can set **minimum and maximum birth years** on registration. You cannot join if your age is outside the allowed range.

DistantRace accounts generally require participants to be at least **13 years old** to register independently, in line with data-protection rules in several countries (including Latvia).

## Children under 13

Children under 13 **cannot create their own DistantRace login**. Instead:

1. A parent or guardian creates their own account.
2. The parent creates a **sub-account** for the child.
3. The parent registers the child for events using that sub-account.

See [Registering for someone else](registering-for-someone-else.md).

Activities must still sync from a connected device or app — often the parent's phone or watch.

## Organizer settings

Organizers configure age limits under **Settings → Registration**. Some challenges also allow **child subaccounts** in advanced settings so parents can register children under the age limit when permitted.
