# Join codes and invitations

Control access to private and unlisted events with **shared passwords** or **individual join codes**.

## Shared join password

**Settings → Base** — set one password for all participants when the event is private and you do not use individual codes.

## Individual join codes

### Club-wide codes

**Club → Join Passwords** — codes valid across your private events. One participant per code.

### Per-event codes

**Settings → Join Passwords** on a specific challenge or competition:

- Create codes manually or **generate random batches**
- Bind to a **distance** (competitions)
- Pre-fill name, email, phone, birth date, external ID
- **Activate / deactivate** or delete individual codes
- **Delete all unused** — bulk-remove every code with no linked user (see below)
- **Export** to XLSX for distribution
- **Send email invitations** with magic links

::: tip One user per code
Each individual code attaches to the first account that redeems it. The same user reuses that code for your other private events.

## Delete all unused codes

Bulk-delete codes that nobody has redeemed yet. Available on both **Club → Join Passwords** and **Settings → Join Passwords** on a specific event.

**Path:** Join code list → **Delete All Unused** (toolbar) → confirm in modal → **Yes, delete**

| Scope | What gets deleted |
|-------|-------------------|
| Club list | Unused club-wide codes (`user` is empty) for your organization |
| Event list | Unused codes for that challenge or competition only |

Codes already linked to a participant account are **not** affected. The action cannot be undone.

If you still need to distribute printed codes or email batches, **Export XLSX** before deleting unused rows.

## Email invitations

From the join code list, send an invitation email. Recipients may be auto-enrolled if the event has no required apply questions — see [Email invitation links](../joining-events/email-invitation-links.md).
